Based on a play by Danish playwright Kaj Munk, Ordet is a tale of redemption brought about by human love. Full of hope without becoming sentimental, the film explores the clash between orthodox religions and other forms of faith within a Danish farming family. Spellbindingly simple, it can seem incredibly slow by modern standards - it features a total of only 114 shots, each on average taking more than a minute - but this is a film of incredible power and visual beauty.
