Italian / Spanish (English subtitles)
Il Postino is the tale of Mario, a shy man on a beautiful Italian island who becomes a postman - his sole job being to deliver the stacks of mail that arrive for exiled Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. Mario's friendship with the poet deepens and subsequently helps him gain confidence to woo local beauty Beatrice. Nominated for five Oscars and winning one for best original score, this is a ravishing but deceptively gentle film, its dark coda emphasising that poetry can be about politics as well as love.
Nostalgic and delightful Italian classic about childhood and the power of cinema.
