Director Jean Renoir's masterpiece is set in France in 1939. A wealthy couple hold a shooting party weekend at their country home. Among the guests, and the staff, there are many illicit affairs, forbidden loves and simmering tensions, all barely hidden beneath the surface of polite and proper behaviour. But before too long, the veneer of civility starts to give way. The aristocrats and the servants are all struggling to make sense of a changing world and the threat of the coming war. They know the old rules don't apply any more - but they don't know what the new rules might be either.
Set during World War One, this film from legendary director Jean Renoir about three French soldiers in a prison camp portrays war's harsh realities.
