Mental disability is an issue that mainstream movies find hard to sell. The involving drama I Am Sam - starring an Oscar-nominated Sean Penn as a man with a mental age of seven thrown into the dilemma of trying to retain custody of his daughter (Dakota Fanning) - tries to break down these barriers and, to an extent, succeeds. The film admirably carries an uplifting message - all soundtracked to covers of songs by Sam's favourite band, The Beatles.
Charlie Babbitt gets more than he bargained for when he kidnaps his autistic brother for his inheritance in an entertaining, touching drama.
