Synopsis

Guy Pearce stars in this supernatural romantic thriller as the famous escapologist Harry Houdini. A fiction based on his obsession with debunking bogus spirituality, here Houdini is on a tour of Britain in the 1920s, at the height of his fame, and has offered a reward of $10,000 to anyone who can contact his dead mother and reveal what she said on her death bed. Beautiful Scottish psychic Mary McGarvie (Catherine Zeta Jones) inveigles her way into Houdini's life in what seems like an obvious attempt to con her way to the cash, but matters are soon complicated as they find themselves attracted to one another.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
