During the Cuban missile crisis of the early 1960s, a couple retreat to their time-locked underground fallout shelter, wrongly convinced that nuclear war has commenced. When the doors open after 35 years, their grown up son Adam, who was born in the bunker, is introduced to 1990s Los Angeles. Lost in a world far removed from the 1960s values with which he's been raised, he nevertheless finds romance with a hip L.A. girl called, unsurprisingly, Eve. Charming performances and some smart satire mark this romantic comedy out.
Based on a harrowing true story, this film sees a Japanese mother smuggle her unregistered children into an apartment, banning them from going out.

Tim Burton's update on the Frankenstein story is also a brilliant and strikingly-designed satire on suburban values.

Time-travelling caper with Marty McFly travelling to the 1950s in Doc Brown's DeLorean. Stunning visuals and endless 80s tropes.
