By 1922 standards, this film would have been a hit blockbuster, seen in cinemas throughout the country, as a scary and terrifying horror about a vampires unquenchable thirst for blood. The effects would be new and frightening, and the music adding to the dark mood. This all changes if you look at the film from a 21st century view though. The fact that it is a silent film means that the actors have to act like they are in a pantomime, to convey emotions and conversation. This means that everyone seems to overreact and the stop motion animation just ends up looking like a Benny Hill sketch! All in all though, this film is very enjoyable, and if you are in the right mood, it will sends shivers down your spine. Highly recommended for lovers of horror and old films alike.
