I, like everyone in the collective universe, love Batman. I love every inch of his sweaty, leather-clad body. So when the Dark Knight was publicly announced (none of that Viral Marketing nonsense), I jumped up and down screaming like a five year old who just got told he was going to Disenyland. Past the initially stupid idea (batman beats up a clown and shouts) the film is actually all very complex, questioning the very idea of a superhero. Basically, there is an Attorney who Batman's jealous of 'cause he's in a relationship with a woman whom Batman has a crush on, And Batman has to wrestle with his his alto-ego, and the Joker is rampaging across town. Yes, it seems standard, but it's amazing. The film's plot isn't even it's strongest point: phenomanal performances from the late Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman top the film off like it's a rasberry tart and they're the whipped cream. My only complaint is this - the film is, no doubt about it, the darkest and grittiest batman film. But it's a little hard to take seriously because...well...it's BATMAN. He wears skin-tight leather and fights bad guys, and come on, you still remember Adam "Shark Repellent" West, don't you? I mean really, Nolam, to use your own words, "Why So Serious?" Despite that, it's still an amazing film. I encourage you to watch it, it's great.
