The City of Lost Children (1995)

A twisted tale of orphans and a scientist that is unable to dream. With conjoined twins and modified fleas, this is a twisted child's tale for adults. This tale of how misfits banded together to save the day is nothing new and unfortunately 'the City of Lost Children' brings nothing fresh to the table. The film's ultimate downfall is it's ridiculous storyline. The evil scientist Krank does his best to tempt the children that he and his cyclops have kidnapped from the rough streets to stop having nightmares and dream happy dreams. However, when the dreaded cyclops kidnap Ron Perlman's little brother, he sets out with a gang of abonded children to rescue him. The clones bring humour and the brain in a box is the most intriguing character. The santa scene is by far the best scene because of it's childish creepiness.A good turn from Perlman but definately not his best work. And a great turn from Judith Vittet.However the scene they share when they look to each other as brother and sister is very creepy. This French film is definately not a classic but is worth a watch due to its fantastic visual appearance and gothic style.
