Everyone claims that the classical spectacle of 'Bambi' was the most heart-warming & emotional Universal film of all time (and is arguably correct) yet people tend to forget a reference towards 'Watership Down': an adventurous tale with highs and lows linked to these rabbits' lives e.g. The leader of the herd known as 'Hazel' (voiced by John Hurt) is desperate to find freedom due to the vision of his younger brother 'Fiver' who has the gift known as clairvoyance (voiced by Richard Briers). The modest yet brave characteristics of Hazel ensure most of his herd’s survival and happiness (especially to his younger brother: 'Fiver'). Hazel pursues his journey unknowing what is to transpire, yet whence Fiver realizes a possible downfall of fate (hence the Title 'Watership DOWN') Hazel reinforces everything in his power to save: Fiver, Bigwig, Capt. Holly, Pipkin etc. On a differing note: director: Martin Rosen includes ideas and context from Richard Adams' novel of Watership Down: They both link to one another; seeming the fact the emotional background is there, it is only Martin Rosen's anthropomorphism portrayal for the herd (mostly Hazel; seeming he is the main character) in the film which grabs attention from a young/old target audience. In addition: the famous actors John Hurt and Richard Briers are delivered as great throughout: Watership Down was a great asset to them as well as to Richard Adams and Martin Rosen. In conclusion: I believe Watership Down could engulf any human soul with emotion no matter whoever it is. Watership Down's referral to other Universal/Disney spectacles seems upmost legitimate, it really is rather underrated and unaccredited in terms of box office. (The film was hinted with a little romance towards the end, as well as Hazel's sacrifice).
