Once again I haven't actually seen this film but I have read the play. In the play there is a mixture of madness and love and it can be a bit confusing. Hamlet is pretending to be mad so he can do what he wants, but he used to love Lady Ophelia and still does a small bit. She is acting as a spy for her father, but still has feelings for Hamlet. Hamlet creates a trap for the new king, who his fathers ghost tells him poisoned him. He does this by getting the play thats going to be preformed to be the murder of Gonzago and be changed in a few ways. This then becomes a trap for him when he speaks to his mother and kills a man. he is then acused of being completely mad and is taken to be killed in England. His mother is in love with his uncle who is the new king and hardly remembers her previous husband. you could say she is a bit mad, as she went quickly from mourning to marrying again. He is rescued by Danish pirates who take him back to Denmark. he rides to his home and is met by his friend Horatio, who tells him Lady Ophelia is dead, driven to drowning because she becomes mad with grief. Hamlet becomes a small bit mad for his dead love. near the end, there is a sword fight between Hamlet and lady Ophelia's brother. the rapiers are poisoned and so is the wine cup that his mother drinks thats meant to be his. In this there is a lot of madness, with most people becoming part or fully mad. There is some love in it, the love of Hamlet and Lady Ophelia, the Queen and the old King, the Queen and the new King Hamlets uncle.
