Shiver me timbers, what a brilliant film! Filled with alliances, adventure and hostilities (on the way to life-long friendships), this film is super intriguing and quite interesting!
The amount of trust and freedom in this film is immense. I mean, what type of parent these days would let their children camp on an island without any adult supervision for a WHOLE week! I certainly haven’t heard of one that would! But then again being set 85 years ago it was a completely different era to the one we live in now…
The Swallows, a crew consisting of four siblings - John, Susan, Titty and Roger - set up camp on an island in the Lake District during their summer holidays. Life camping on “Wild Cat Island” is a huge adventure, but only gets really exciting when the Swallows discover that the island is the territory of two girls who sail the Amazon. The scene is set for friendship, and at the same time, serious rivalry!
The only negative point about this film is that it’s ever so slightly slow-paced at times, and that it’s a bit predictable. All in all, the acting, the music and the idea of the story line are fabulous, causing the film to literally sail into the four star zone!
