Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters (2013)

Overall, this film wasn't as good as the first. A lot of people really didn't like the first one because "it wasn't as good as the book!!" (no name dropping), but in my opinion, to really enjoy and critique a film, you have to treat it as a seperate entity to its book. Anyway, it started off with a nice little action scene, which made me think that this meant the rest of the film should be good too. Wrong. If anything, there was too much action throughout the whole thing without enough time to hear some nice dialogue and bond with the characters, and when this did eventually happen... it didn't really work. I didn't feel engaged in the film much at all, found myself getting bored fairly quickly and (especially the first half) wasn't written very well. Admittedly, the film did get a little bit better as it went on, and there was one really good scene involving a cave, lots of action and a cross-dressing satyr, which made me hope for the rest of the film (mainly the satyr). Some of the acting was fantastic, some not so great, and the one character I really did feel for was Tyson (don't worry, no spoilers). So, in conclusion; I wouldn't really recommend this film to any fans of the series (either books or films), and in hindsight I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to see it at the cinema, but if you have, say, a free afternoon and can find a cheap ticket somehow, maybe you could just check it out. For the laughs.
