This film may be a bit too much like the Coen Brothers darkly funny and gleefully violent Fargo, but is still an engrossing drama that explores the dark side of good people and the mentality of those considering committing a serious crime. Billy Bob Thornton, as always, gives a compelling and heartfelt performance and Bill Paxton plays his role solidly. A Simple Plan is utterly gripping and is no doubt Sam Raimi's best and most intelligent film to date, with slick direction, a beautiful setting and an unsettling score from Danny Elfman. To put it simply, this film has no bad scenes. Borrowed from the equally brilliant book of the same name by Scott Smith, A Simple Plan is a highly recommended completely riveting crime drama that is packed with emotional tension.
