I had heard good things about 'Thelma and Louise' for a while, especially due to the intrigue of seeing director Ridley Scott (of 'Gladiator' and 'Alien') creating a road-trip movie, thankfully it was quite successful! Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon make this film with their performances, chemistry and charm that certainly makes them entertaining to watch and easy to relate to. The story of regular people getting into a bad situation is not ground-breaking, but the cause of the situation is strangely dark for the genre, but works well. The film has some nice shots of the rural areas of California and Utah, but nothing in the direction particularly stands out or gives the film a distinct style, it is quite formulaic to the road-trip film in that sense. There have been many discussion about the film being a film that has feminism overtones, which is good to do as an attempt to break out of the cliché film we see over and over again. Unfortunately due to some places on the internet blurring the line between equal rights and female supremacy, it's hard to pinpoint where 'Thelma and Louise' fits in. I bring this up because the representation of men that the women meet seems to differ from being regular people (except Brad Pitt, obviously) to disgusting individuals. If this is a 'feminist film', then I think it failed at representing both genders equally, or at least presenting characters as if they were actual people. Overall, 'Thelma and Louise' is a good road-trip movie with a decently well written script and entertaining protagonists. There isn't too much else that the film offers except for some heavy-handed and over the top pandering to a female audience. Otherwise, I enjoy it!
