Do you know why I love Jason Bourne so much? Just two words... Bourne Supremacy, the second of four films is by by far the most adrenaline soaked, breath taking and entertaining of them all. Spy thrillers don't get much better than Bourne. Ha! who needs Bond! Bourne Supremacy is adapted by writer Tony Gilroy (Nightcrawler) from the second of Robert Ludlum Bourne books and is directed by Brit Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips). Just when the pesky spy, with a touch of amnesia thinks he and his beloved Marie (Franka Potente) are safe and off the radar, a unknown assassin emerges from the darkest of shadows and kills Marie. Once again on the run and fighting for his life, unwittingly Bourne (Matt Damon) finds himself in the center of a complicated and dangerous web of secrecy and corruption involving some mysterious operation called Treadstone. I generally find spy thrillers rather boring and tedious. But in some strange way Bourne Supremacy has a habit of grabbing you by the collar, yanking you off your chair and pulling you through the TV screen and throwing you into the action - but make sure to watch your head encase of flying bullets. I never planned on being an international spy/assassin, but after watching Bourne, I feel like I have been doing it for years. The shaky, kinetic camera work is excellent for the film and really gets immersed into the blistering action, particularly the fight scenes. Watching the fight scenes was like watching a UFC match fought right in front of you and at any time you feared Anderson Silva would pull you into the ring. While Bond is sophisticated and charming, Bourne is cold and calculated. The fight scenes with Bond are quick and stylish , the fight scenes with Bourne are long, brutal and grueling. Bond is flocked with beautiful women, Bourne knows that every women he gets close to is in mortal danger. While both Bourne and Bond have the same profession, their lives couldn't be further apart. However its this raw, gritty realism of The Bourne series I find so compelling, the character so unforgetable and James Bond so lame.
