Vertigo is an interesting film that overall I enjoyed watching, though I wasn't always keen on the pacing of the film. The main character is Scottie, played by James Stewart who is a ex-detective who's had to retire as his fear of heights and chronic vertigo means he accidentally causes the death of another officer. An old friend asks Scottie to follow his wife Madeleine (played by Kim Novak), as he believes she has been possessed. Scottie ends up falling in love with her - though as the film plays out we learn that this love has developed into an unhealthy obsession. When he later meets Judy he is instantly intrigued by her as she appears to be an exact look-alike. The scenes where Scottie is trying to change Judy to make her look more like Madeline are unsettling to watch as they both become more and more desperate. His obsession with Madeline means he will do whatever it takes to try and be with her again, even though she is no longer around and though Judy protests she steps into the role. Towards the end the suspense was great and I thought James Stewart and Kim Novak played their roles very well. I personally felt that the film was quite slow moving at parts, and I also thought that the twist was revealed a bit too soon but overall I really liked the film.

The most famous, and possibly the most tense, of the films of suspense master Hitchcock, in which a woman is stuck in a remote hotel in a storm.

Weird even for director David Lynch, this unsettling film centres on a naive wannabe actress Betty and glamorous amnesiac Rita.
