Probably one of the most charming film's I've seen, The Purple Rose of Cairo tells the story of Cecilia, a waitress in the deppresion era of America who is in a dwindling relationship and yet has a passion for cinema and dreams of what it would be like on the other side of the screen. Whilst watching a new film that seems to have taken over her life, the leading man walks of the screen and confesses his love for her. It is truely a remarkable peice of work that captures the imagination of the viewer and you never want to turn your head away because you are just so inteigued about Cecilia's journey with a fictional character. It shows the pinacals of love but also the strugle of life, it creates the scence of illusion which is somehow reflected in real life. A genuine move and one you will be watching over and over again
