Ridley Scott's 'Blade Runner' is perhaps the most genre defining science-fiction film to date. Scott's bleak depiction of the gloomy, futuristic cityscape has become iconic, and synonymous with the sci-fi genre. I thoroughly enjoyed Scott's use of dark, low-key lighting schemes to portray the chaotic, eccentric environment in which the film takes place. Furthermore, his use of slow, protracted tracking shots really increase the intensity of the film. The character of Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, is extremely intricate and interesting; the methods Scott employs to develop Deckard's character are incredibly interesting; evoking real emotion and empathy from the audience. This film is one of the many great masterpieces of the sci-fi genre, and is deserving of it's place amongst other great sci-fi works; such as 2001; A Space Odyssey and Twelve Monkeys.
Print this reviewThis visually spectacular German sci-fi classic (made, incredibly, in 1927) sees the rich live in skyscrapers and the poor toil underground.
