Coco Before Chanel tells the life of fashion designer Coco Chanel, what else would you expect? From her childhood at an orphanage to her fashion shows it shows how emotionally and physically she made it through near poverty to become one of the most successful and renowned fashion designers in the world. The film, however does put the focal point on her time as a mistress, obviously not the most classy part of her life; this did though raise awareness of the upper class at the time and their attitudes and mistreatment towards women though. While being a mistress , Coco did affirm her position as an equal to Balsan which only drove her to be equal and as successful as men. Eventually she began a relationship with an Englishman named 'Boy', the film displayed the great passion between the two and her sorrow over losing him after all he had done for her business. Despite some frankly off-putting and vulgar scenes, the film is accurate and as long as you cover your eyes (no peeking, so you're not scarred) at the risqué scenes, is suitable for 13+. I would recommend this to a friend if they were interested in the world of fashion or simply Coco Chanel herself.
