Hable Con Ella (Talk To Her) (2002)

Talk to Her, directed by Pedro Almodovar is a very sensory film. The garish colour palate consists of warm oranges and reds and even the occasional blues like in the prison scenes are warm cool blues. This is a trait of Almodovars work and makes the films stand out not only as clearly his work but visually it looks compelling. Another way it is sensory is the vibrant soundtrack and extremely emotional performance type. Marcos character struggles with his frequent crying and Rosario Flores acting in the snake scene is powerfully dramatic. My point is that despite the film being visually and audibly compelling the subject matter is ironic because of this as its about people in comas. Alicia and Lydia being in comas where they supposedly cannot hear or see the outside world but in fact being surrounded by vibrancy and flowers is significant to a message of the film. It shows that the people in comas become of utmost importance to the people around them and they lose sight of reality and become too heavily involved in someone who cannot give you genuine happiness as they are comatose. The very title suggests that Marcos suffering is being vented through Lydia and hes lost sight of the fact she probably cant hear him.
