Four Weddings And A Funeral (1994)

I do not usually watch romances at all. However, when I watched this film I thought the way it was made was very good. As a person who doesn't watch a romance at all if they can help it, I enjoyed it very much. I have only rated this three stars because of what I thought of some of the characters and I slightly disagreed with the plot. I am here, however, to judge the making of this film. I thought the funeral scene was very important for this film because there were some parts in it that stood out. The way the camera went into a close-up shot on Matthew's face as he read out his speech. By doing this, you could read the exact expression on the man's face as he struggled not to crack. It also gives the audience insight into how much he loved the man who passed away. (I will not give away the name of this man in case anyone has not watched this.) Another part of this scene is when Matthew's words continue off screen when the coffin is being carried away. This type of sound is known as off screen sound and a bridge sound as his voice continues when there is a time he isn't saying anything. You can see everyone's expressions as their deceased friend is being carried away. The use of the bridge sound is also very effective because it gives a sense that Matthew's speech is still replaying in everybody's mind. His words were so important that everyone was still thinking about it even as the ceremony was ending. This shows that it all meant something to everyone there.
