This film was directed by Steven Spielberg the same person that directed ET. The music was by John Williams. The main topic of the film is about a mysterious UFO (unidentified flying object) encounter which leads a few selected people to experience visions about a mountain. When they investigate more they are surprised with the outcomes… So, Close Encounters of The Third Kind. What do I think of it? Well, it’s touchy. I loved the film, it was simply stunning. However, I feel like there wasn’t much sense in the first half of the movie. This was due to the amount of information which is thrown at the viewer within a few minutes. I barely had time to concentrate on one thing before they moved subject and wanting to stay along with the movie I kind of forgot what happened previously. The variations of languages do not help either. Some people were speaking French and others English. The sand storm effects were way too loud which made hearing the characters impossible and therefore is a major downside. After discussing it with some of my fellow reviewers we pieced together and came to what we though happened in the first part of the film. But still, when you watch a film you want to understand what’s going on and the first scene of Close Encounters doesn’t achieve that. That’s not to say the film itself is bad. The film gradually gets less obscure but with more interesting things happening you still don’t get a feel for them. If this was just me I would’ve mentioned but all my fellow reviewers have had the same opinion so it’s worth mentioning and consequently classified as a con. The positives about this film however are also substantial. It is an amazing sci-fi movie with an incredible story line. The actors perfect the role at hand with ease and the film takes that benefit. Furthermore, the graphics and special effects are superb featuring bright lights, sand storms and excellent scenes. There is also a small love story behind it which gives the film an extra twinge. All in all, Close Encounters of The Third Kind is a somewhat confusing but great movie. However, I feel like I put my expectation too high and the film simply couldn’t reach it. This led me with a bit of a let-down feeling but for the people that enjoy sci-fi I would recommend this film.
