Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a 2010 action, sci-fi, comedy from British director Edgar Wright. It is based off of the Scott Pilgrim comic series and condenses the issues into one film.
The film is about Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) a 22 year old Canadian living in Toronto who’s in a failing band, lives across the street from his parents, has a gay roommate named Wallace (Kieran Culkin) and is dating a 17 year old Chinese girl named Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). But his life starts to turn upside-down when he meets the literal girl of his dreams Ramona Flowers (Mary-Elizabeth-Winstead) and breaks up with his girlfriend to be with her, this unfortunately puts him in the path of Ramona’s evil ex’s who want to destroy Scott and bring Ramona back to their leader Gideon Graves (Jason Schwartzman), so Scott must fight for both his own and Ramona’s life against Matthew Patel (Satay Bhabha), Lucas Lee (Chris Evans), Todd Ingram (Brandon Routh), Roxy Richter (Mae Whitman), Kyle and Ken Katayanagi ( Keita and Shota Saito) and finally Gideon himself in video game and anime like battles to the death.
The film is brilliant, it’s funny, engaging, action packed and very unique. It has a great visual style which looks just like the comic blending live action with super imposed videogame imagery, movement lines and sound effects it visually looks like a comic, an anime and a video game which makes it a delight to watch especially the fight scenes from the short but sweet battle against Matthew Patel, to the overpowered fight against vegan telekinetic Todd Ingram all the way to the climactic second round against Gideon the film is just a ton of fun to watch from beginning to end and I hope more people find it, I recommend this film for anybody who wants to watch a weird but wonderful film that you will enjoy from beginning to end.
