Me, being an Alien fan, really enjoyed this movie. I think it was a great instalment into the popular Alien franchise. This film was technically the sequel to Ridley Scott's 2012 "Prometheus". Ridley Scott has managed to create a movie which fits in to both Prometheus and the classic alien movies. There are lots of good things about this film however, there are still unanswered questions and parts which were not quite clear. I think the film had a unique plot. The plot is about a colony ship, Covenant, who are on their way to Origae-6, a plant which they believe to be suitable for population. However, on their way to Origae-6 they pick up a distress signal from a nearby planet. When they go to investigate, they believe that the planet might just be the perfect paradise until they realise it may not be as safe as they thought. They meet David (Micheal Fassbender), a Weyland-Industries android who survived the Prometheus disaster. Soon, the crew of Covenant realise that they made a terrible mistake from visiting the so-called "Paradise" in the first place... I liked how Ridley Scott still kept the theme of creators and their creations like in Prometheus, especially at the begging of the movie. The beginning of the movie was really interesting, it featured Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, the CEO of Weyland Industries/Weyland-Yutani Corp. It was very interesting to see his conversation with David, David seemed to be very interested in the fact that Peter Weyland was his creator yet he will die, and David will not. This immediately brought me back to Prometheus and how clever and interesting the idea is. Another part of this movie which I really liked was the Neomorphs. The Neomorphs where the newly introduced species of the Xenomorphs. It showed the Aliens in a new perspective, quite a violent and gory one. I enjoyed the fact that there was a new species of Alien in this movie because it reminded me of Prometheus again but also had the Alien movie style to it. The Xenomorph came in the last third of this movie, I was OK with this though because the other two thirds of the movie involved the Neomorph and David which made it a lot like Prometheus while also being a lot like Alien (1979). This film was extremely gory which I personally really liked because it brought back the horrors of the Alien movies and combined Sci-Fi with Horror. The soundtrack in this movie was brilliant, it used a lot of the original tracks from Alien (1979). It also contained the Prometheus theme which was cool since again, it links the Prometheus movie to the Alien movies a lot more. The effects in this movie were surprisingly much more better than what I was expecting. Personally, I prefer how they created the Alien in the 1979 Alien movie because it gave a sense of realism to it but nether the less, the CGI in this movie was brilliant. One of the let-downs in this movie were the engineers. The engineers were the main theme of the Prometheus movie. However, in this movie I feel like Ridley Scott threw their potential away a bit which I was slightly disappointed about but I hope this doesn't mean we wont see them in any future Alien movies since I think they were a great idea. I think Ridley Scott needed to either choose to make a classic-style Alien movie or a more Prometheus-like movie since I don't think they could be merged into one movie just yet due to the amount of unanswered questions. Like Prometheus, Alien Covenant left a whopping amount of questions. Some of these questions were from Prometheus such as "Who are the engineers really?" but we didn't find that out in this movie. Another question was "Why was there a painting of a Xenomorph in the Engineers temple in Prometheus? There are other questions which have not been answered but since this is a spoiler-free review, I can't say. Overall I think this was a great, gory Alien movie. I personally still don't think this beats Ridley Scotts 1979 Alien but it was still a good instalment into the franchise. I hope that there will be a sequel to this movie but I also would like to see another movie focusing on the engineers since I think they have a good potential. I really enjoyed this movie and I recommend it to any fan of the Alien franchise. I rate this movie four stars because it was a great movie but not all of it added up.
