Kidulthood (2006)

The film Kiduldthood is a Gritty crime based film set in London where three teenagers and their girlfriends get a day off from school due to a girl from the school committing suicide because of bullying. This already paints the U.K in a bad picture as it shows other countries that we have a high amount of bullying in schools and a lot of teens committing suicide because of this issue.

Another stereotype the film uses is that British teens are very 'chavy' and into drugs and violence this is shown through the whole film being based around teens who are constantly threatening each other, fighting each other and doing drugs, this is not a good image and definitely not one the U.K wants to be represented by even though these things do go on in this country.

The final thing i would like to write about regarding how The U.K is represented is the racism. In this film many of the non-black characters are portrayed as either slightly racist or very racist, sometimes the characters weren't racist at all however they were still accused of it, for example in one seen the three main characters are trying to get a taxi from one part of London to another and although we don't actually see much of this (we are shown a small clip of them waiting later on) we are informed through the characters dialogue that they had to wait a long time for the taxi and that some drivers saw them and didn't stop because they were supposedly racist and didn't want the three black teens in their taxi. This is a very one sided argument in the film as we do not know if the taxi drivers had a reason to not pick up the protagonists and because we don't know if there was a reason we a drawn to believing the story we are told, because of this people who have never been to the UK may decide they don't want to visit or create prejudices of their own about the people who live in the UK based on this film alone which doesn't give a full, clear or even accurate representation of the diversity of ethnicity's in the UK and how they all act with each other.

Aside from this and judging the film purely on entertainment value i would say its a very good film and is definitely worth the watch as there is always something happening and every scene is like a mini cliff hanger.
