What can I say? A true sci-fi classic with more one liners than most. A witty Sci-fi that will blow your mind whilst simultaneously making your roar with laughter. The acting is superb and the plot line extremely though. Although heart lifting this film raises questions, what could you mess up if you traveled back in time? What could you change? Could you accidentally change you own future or alter your past? Back to the Future is a mine field of cause and effect paradoxes and alternative futures. A truly fun adventure that all can enjoy. The film is also ingeniously capable of showing kids what should be obvious, your parents were like you once however much they deny it and that one small event, say for example, getting hit by a car instead of someone else, can change the course of history forever. A bridge between two worlds Back to the Future compares two very different time periods and shows you that maybe they might not be as different as you think. The image of the DeLorean has become iconic and no wonder, as Doc Brown says 'The way I see it, If you're going to build a time machine into a car, why not do it in some style?' Marty and Doc Brown are both hugely well written characters and bring a touch of realism into an otherwise far fetched story. Marty feels very real and relatable despite the surroundings he finds himself in, he still behaves in a way that the viewer can relate to and is in many ways an ordinary typical 80's teenager from the body warmer to the skate board. Doc Brown meanwhile is very much the classic mad scientist with his erratic and occasionally confusing way of speaking and his passion for extremely impractical gadgets, not to mention the hair and Einstein the dog. The film ends on a dramatically brilliant lead on to the next film, just when you think its all over, bang the bottom drops out of the story with a loud thunk, leading onto a futuristic sci-fi fest and of course a lack of roads. Of course the film has been heralded as a true sci-fi classic and the conventions have reached the point that even those who have not seen it are aware of these classic cliches. Despite a lack of special effects (come on be reasonable it was made in 1985) the story more than makes up for these short comings. A witty and truly entertaining film enjoyable for both older and younger generations. This should be watched and preserved for all time; past, present and future (come on I had to put the joke in, it is a time travel film!)
