The Life Aquatic is directed by Wes Anderson, famously known for his film The Grand Budapest (2014) and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) whose films are very specifically styled, in colour and symetry lures an audience that know his style and want to be enveloped into a parallel world. In The Life Aquatic you may find that, yes the colour palate is pleasing, full of pastel blues and yellows and the shots are all framed to precision, however the narrative is another matter. The style is there but but unfortunately the story line is not as strong as some of Anderson's other films. Throughout the film it feels like there's something always happening but also it feels like it's dragging on, the Zissou's character did not engage me and I felt that there was a lack of passion within the performance.
