This is a heartbreaking true story that shows you how bad American segregation and sexism was. The 3 main protagonists, Mary, Dorothy and Katherine, are all black African-American women who worked at NASA in 1961, when the space race was at its peak and segregation had become one of the most prominent things in American life. Mary, Dorothy and Katherine are the best of friends, and work together to try and overcome segregation at NASA and win the space race against the USSR. Hidden Figures shows you several unbelievable examples of what happened. I was really interested to find out about what changes have been made to make sure abhorrent things like this never happen again. The way that the film was structured was very clever, showing us the failures and triumphs of all of the characters one after the other. It was a brilliant film, and if anyone wants to learn a bit more about the space race, NASA, or just wants to watch a brilliant movie, then this is the one for you, although you may need a certain level of maturity to understand what is going on and why. I found that discussing this movie in class really helped me understand it on a whole other level. The sound quality was great and the music all fitted the theme and era perfectly. Hidden Figures was AMAZING!
