Lion (2016)

When 5 year old Saroo, an Indian boy, gets lots on a passenger train heading miles away from his home, he ends up on the other side of India where he speaks a different language to everyone else without his mother or brother. Struggling to survive the streets of Calcutta, Saroo doesn't have time or energy to search for his real home. After several months living on the dangerous streets of Calcutta, he is eventually sent to an orphanage where he is fed, has some proper shelter and is educated but he soon realises that his new home is not really such a nice place. Therefore, when he is offered to be adopted by a couple in Australia, he can hardly refuse. The story then skips forward 25 years when Saroo is a university student, applying for a job. By this time, Saroo had given up hope for ever finding his real home, partly because he does not want to hurt his adoptive parents' feelings. But when he meets another Indian family, he finds new hope to search for his family. But not Knowing where about the lived in India made the search incredibly difficult even with the technology at hand. With returning memories of home, Saroo eventually manages to find his way back home and to his family. The film is a truly heart-touching feature which left my mind on it all night and still the next morning. And this was not because it was exciting or action packed or any of that sort, just because it was so emotional about what happened to this poor boy when he was a child. It also gives an insight on how terrible life in other parts of the world are like. The reason I really took this true story to heart is because some elements of the film contrast hugely to our day to day life in a bad way and it made me think : "Poor people in India struggling to survive while we just get on with life and take no notice of other people's hardships." I was at the brink of tears several times while watching the film and I would definitely recommend watching Lion as it will be a truly magnificent experience!
