Touching and humorous, but not exactly the most entertaining movie

Rain man revolves around the road trip adventure of Charlie Babbit (Tom Cruise) and his autistic brother, Raymond (Dustin Hoffman). Throughout Charlie's life, he has never known that he had a brother until recently, he kidnapped his brother from a care house in the state of Ohio.

The performance of Tom Cruise as Charlie Babbit ,he was a typical self centred, narcissistic, man in his 20s, who was always frustrated and angry at babysitting his autistic older brother Raymond who Charlie had no knowledge of his existence until recently, his behaviour changed slowly throughout the film as Charlie starts to develop love, care, and sympathy for his older brother. The superb acting of Tom cruise brilliantly depicts the emotional changes of Charlie throughout the film, subtly yet noticeable.

We might not have much knowledge about the behaviour of autistic people before, but the performance of Dustin Hoffman on his role as Raymond in this film gave us a much relatable look on how people with mental disabilities behave in the society, and the problems they encounter in the real world we never really thought about, problems that could be as simple as shopping in a convenient store or crossing the streets. Hoffman's empathetic acting really gave the movie a heart-warming touch, bring humour and warmth to the movie.

As said in the title, this film is not exactly the most entertaining movie. This is a character driven film instead of a plot driven film, which means the plot is quite simple and straightforward, there are climaxes and downs in the movie, but most of them aren't really surprising and most of them are very much predictable.

Even though the film doesn't have the most exciting plot, the superb acting from Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman makes a perfect duo in this movie as they perfectly showed us how sympathy, empathy, and care can bond two strangers together, bringing this originally rather dull plot to life.
