This insightful movie shows both sides of racism in the 1960s and is based of a true story of bravery and resilience that three coloured women had shown. In this review I will go over the pros and cons of ‘Hidden Figures’.
I can already tell you that I have many more pros then cons in this review, as there are not many things I can nitpick in this film. My first pro is the obvious fact that they show discrimination is wrong and how people who were coloured at the time were treated. For example when the policeman saw the three ladies at the start he was grabbing for his cane, but when he found out that they were working to beat the Russians in the Cold War at NASA he was more concerned about beating the Russians. Another pro would be that they show this despicable racism in a rather strange way. This was when one of our protagonists had to run to the other side of the building just to go to the toilet, because she wasn’t allowed in the white toilets. Later, the boss at NASA decided nothing could get in the way between the Russians and Americans in the race to the moon, so he decided to knock down the sign that stated whites only meaning she wouldn’t have to run a mile across campus to go and ‘do her business’. Whilst I could go on, it would take a very long time to go through every single pro in this movie so I must move on to the cons.
My first con applies only to a schoolboy like me, as I haven’t gone through all of school yet, bits of this film are hard to understand and generally makes the plot a bit more complex. My next con is a fine nitpick, I think at the end of the movie they should have shown everyone at NASA watching the historical takeoff. But that’s just my opinion.
Thank you for reading this,
I am very grateful.
