Fantastic Beasts and where to find them first released in cinemas on 18th November 2016 and directed by David Yates is a spellbinding story of a young wizard Newt Scammander as he travels through 1920s New York getting into trouble with magical law along the way. Many critics were worried about this films release as they feared it would not hold the same magical harry potter vibe, this would be hard to accomplish for other directors, but not for David Yates. As it is directed by David Yates who directed many other Harry Potter films including the half blood prince and the deathly hallows, it really holds onto the same magical feeling we felt in the wizarding world, that makes it feel so familiar even though its an entirely new story. Even the perfectly timed music adapted from the original soundtrack sounds like it came straight from Diagon Alley. With all Harry Potter films it is always difficult to find someone adequate to play an important role, yet some how they always seem to find the perfect person. Their decision to cast Eddie Redmanye as Newt Scammander another brilliant example, his acting skills and ability to portray any expression from utter despair to gleeful joy in an instant really make him able to stand out as a character.
Newt Scammander's character is originally based on the text book released by J.K Rowling named " Fantastic Beasts and where to find them ". Prior to the release of the film in 2016 the only information we had on Scammander was a short paragraph on the books inside cover, when the film was released we suddenly had a whole new incite into the odd and quirky side of newt that really makes him human human. only a brilliant actor like Eddie could have portrayed him quite so well and make me feel so close to the character.
A whole new topic is the setting. I have seen many films set in New York but never one quite like this. It gives you the ability to get lost in the scenery and feel like you are standing there feeling the cold frost, the smoke of car engines or the feel of your rough over coat. when you look closer you can see how much time and effort editors spent making sure that every fine detail from central park to the smallest crack in the wall. However, the one thing that tops it all off is the special effects. Even though the magical creatures are exotic and flamboyant with their many tentacles, feathers or horns, they are all based on real life. this makes you feel like they could be real, but they are just so rare you haven't found one yet. The way they are edited enhances this effect even more, the longer you stare at a creature the more you forget it is CGI and you start to think it is real.
Overall this is a a spellbinding and magical new edition to the wizarding world that i would recommend to all Harry Potter fans and even people who are easing their way into the franchise . Though it will never be as big as the other Harry Potter films, It is simply a fantasy film you must see at least once.
