Aladdin (2019)

The new live-action remake of Aladdin is fantastic, and arguably better than the original (though I'm sure that die-heart Disney fans would be sure to disagree).

The new Aladdin is one of the new films to stray furthest from its original. For example, the songs have been given a new, upbeat twist to suit Will Smtih's hip-hop style. I think this is much needed and is great for the new modernized trend. This will make it an interest to audiences from many different backgrounds. Also, the original musical director from the old Aladdin came back to write the new song "Speechless". This was obviously written by artistic hands and is already a hit.

One of the new features, though, should've (in my opinion) be removed. At one point in the film, the Genie is trying to convince Aladdin to talk to Jasmine at the Sultan's party. He is reluctant, and the Genie proceeds to use his powers to force Aladdin closer to Jasmine. This is where I feel they have gone wrong. In the original, a key comedy feature is that however big and almighty the Genie might appear, Aladdin is always the master, no matter what. I feel like this destroys the element of power Aladdin held and lets the Genie "control" Aladdin. I respect they were trying to be comedic but this is somewhat contradictive.

This film is great for children and teens alike, but also for fans of hip-hop, with great use of instruments like the bass drum, a fantasic funky groove, and Will Smith (a clear rap icon).

Overall, I think Alladin 2019 was a great movie in terms of songs and actors, but could definitely use one or two tweaks.
