Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle review

4 stars

The movie Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle (made in 2017) was phenomenal. All the characters developed and matured in their own way, but the character I believe made the most progress was Bethany.

It starts with four teenagers with unique interests and hobbies who are transported into a video game called Jumanji. They are called Spencer, Anthony “Fridge”, Bethany and Martha.

All of the characters were compelling in their own way but the character that stood out the most was Bethany Walker (played by Madison Iseman). Bethany is portrayed as the stereotypical popular girl who is obsessed with social media. She tends to put herself at the top of her priorities and doesn’t care for others. The audience assume Bethany is self-centred at our first glance into her character. She seems to lack the ability to put other people first. As she is thrown into Jumanji without her social media, she must work with the others as a team -to her disappointment. However she does eventually overcome it and she also delivers many of the comedic lines featured in the movie.

I loved the movie because since the teenagers are transported into bodies they are unfamiliar with. It is extremely humorous watching the main characters adjust to their new bodies.

I however disliked the fact the board game was replaced with something more modern and that the older audience will remember Jumanji being a board game and not a video game. On the other hand the younger audience might just remember it being a video game.

Overall I would give Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 4.5 stars because of its ability to relate to this generation.
