Unusual view of the Holocaust

5 stars

28 Jan 2020

This movie has an unusual view of the Holocaust as it shows this horrific event through the eyes of a German child but this changes the perspective and brings the horror of the Holocaust into focus. The movie takes place during the 2nd World War as Bruno (the German child) and his family leave Berlin to go live in a residence near the concentration camp as his father is the new camp Commandant. There Bruno becomes friends with Shmuel, a Jew who lives in the camp. Even though they are on separate sides of the fence, a forbidden friendship starts.
