This film is about an adventurous young boy named Hogarth Hughes. One night when he was playing outside he encountered a massive robot eating metal from the power plant, who then accidentally electrocuted himself. When seeing this, Hogarth reacts quickly to save the robot by turning off the electricity flow. As time passes, Hogarth and the giant begin to bond more, with the added benefit of the giant’s English improving with Hogarth’s help.
This film made me feel like I could do anything due to the amazingly animated scenes, epic cinematography and overall awesome plot. In my opinion, there was a constant theme of mystery, secrecy and danger because through most of the film the US government were bewildered about the claims going around of a giant iron robot destroying parts of the town.
Compared to other animated films I’ve seen, I felt like this one was original and exciting but a bit ominous due to the constant change of the plot throughout the entirety of the film. The suspense of it really got to me, especially how Hogarth and the giant bonded through the period of the film.
I feel like the purpose of this film was to explain that you can be who you want to be due to how often Hogarth encourages the giant to not let anyone minipulate his decisions because of his past as an attack robot of some sort (the film didn’t explain it well enough).
Out of ten I would rate this film a nine because I felt like the past duty of the iron giant and how it landed on earth was not explained enough. I feel like this film was made for children over the age of eight.
