The film is about the Baudelaire children, fourteen-year-old Violet, her twelve-year-old brother Klaus, and their baby sister Sunny. They are orphaned after a mysterious fire destroys their home and kills their parents. The children are initially given to Mr. Poe, who is the family's banker. However, after a bit of research Mr Poe leaves them in the care of their closest relative Count Olaf. Olaf wants the family fortune to himself and this is when a series of unfortunate events start.

The siblings do get to meet other relatives along the way, such as Uncle Montgomery and Aunt Josephine. They also get to use their clever skills to outwit Olaf and find out what really happened to their parents.

My favourite character was Sunny. I found her really funny, especially when she was being rude to Count Olaf. On the whole this film wasn't for me, I found it very boring. I would recommend this film adults rather than children.
