The Lavender Hill Mob (1951)

I watched The Lavender Hill Mob not really knowing what to expect. The minute that I saw that it was black and white, I was immediately put off, yet stuck with it .

The story at first was not very engaging and I found it very hard to follow , though there were a few moments of comedy.

The story follows Henry Holland (Alec Guinness) , a bank clerk on his journey towards a new way of life -theft .

Henry works together with three other men to attempt the unthinkable , to steal over a million pounds in gold from the bank that he works at .

He has many mini adventures on his way and meets many new and unlikely friends.

I think that the story line was rather thin and patchy in places which made it very easy for me to loose interest part way through.

Although this was supposed to be a 'comedy' , I didn't find it particularly funny at all. This film was made in 1951, 69 years ago and the humour ,in my opinion, hasn't aged very well .

Although there are many negatives about the film, the characters are quite relatable and Alec Guinness plays his unpredictable character to perfection.

So, overall, I have to say that I wouldn't recommend this film , but if you are in the mood for a slightly strange and eccentric film to end the evening , theres no harm in giving The Lavender Hill Mob a shot !
