Little Miss Sunshine is a heart-warming tragicomedy starring Greg Kinnear as Richard Hoover (the dad) and Abigail Breslin as Oliver Hoover (the daughter). “Little Miss Sunshine” claimed a winning award for supporting actor and Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Acting Ensemble, along with winning other famous awards in the Bafta's. The world premiere January 20, m2006.
The plot is non-fictional based and is a touching film on mental health of an average family. Valerie Dalton and Jonathan conveyed many emotions of laughter, crying, sadness and joy. This is basically a film about a family who is all trying to get their daughter all the way over to a beauty pageant, but meanwhile they all have their own struggles - like the dad (Richard Hoover) is a broke motivational speaker, the mum (Sheryl Hoover) is feeling very overworked of having to manage the family, the uncle (Frank Ginsberg) has just came out of a mental hospital after trying to commit suicide, the grandpa (Edwin Hoover) has been evicted out of his retirement home for sniffing drugs, the daughter (Olive Hoover) is aware of her body image and is ashamed of it, but strives to be a model in the beauty pageant and then there is the son (Dwayne Hoover), he has taken a vow of silence.
My favourite scene was when the grandpa died halfway throughout their journey, and they had to take him to hospital and the doctors talked about all the paperwork and none of them wanted to sign the papers or else they would be late to the contest. So, they all came together and shoved his dead body out of hospital window and into their van. Whenever I was thinking about this, because it’s hilarious to think that any ordinary family would do this, because no one would! This family was showing its unity and love within the family.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie, and I would recommend watching this film with your family. I would rate it 5 stars because I felt very connected to the characters in Little Miss Sunshine.
