Mice came to rescue me?

This is an animated, Disney, book-based film called The Rescuers about two mice that go on an adventure to save a little girl called Penny.

It is set in New York, which later moves to a damp swamp, where the antagonist lives, who is called Madame Medusa. She wears a lot of make-up that makes her look horrible, and she’s just mean and cruel, your classic Disney villain.

This movie is based on the first two books by Margery Sharp of the same name. Miss Bianca is quite posh and stylish, and I thought they got the exact right voice for her, but my sister didn’t agree. Also, Bernard is the janitor for the Rescuers’ society, the Rescue Aid Society, which includes lots of other mice. So Bernard is pretty much the complete opposite of Miss Bianca(being all posh;) but he comes along the ride anyway)! Unlike the book, there are crocodiles called Brutus and Nero, but in the book they were dogs. So basically this film is 90% its own story, and 10% book based. So I was a bit disappointed in that department.

Penny is a little orphan girl who lives in that swamp with Medusa and Mr. Snoops, her henchman. She gets treated in a mean, threatening and harsh way by Medusa. She makes Penny go down a hole which used to be a pirate cove hideout. Medusa wants her to find a special diamond called “The Devil’s Eye”, which is horrifying for Penny to try to find in the pirate hole, which does contain skeletons, so keep that in mind when watching with younger children.

I loved this film because of the style. I am personally an animator, but I animate stick figures. So this style of animation really inspired me to animate a different style.

I couldn’t really think of anything that could have improved it for me, so I guess there’s another star!

I would recommend it as a family film, for 6+, since how cruel Medusa treated Penny might make young viewers sad.

…AND…THE MOMENT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR…

I rate it 5 stars. It was a great film and I can’t wait to watch it again.

Anyway, thanks for reading my review, and I really hope you have been encouraged to watch this movie!
