to start with I will outline a brief overview of the film without spoiling to much, you may have previously seen it as it started out life as a musical, in this adaptation a man named Christian visits a famous night club called the Moulin Rouge and falls in love with its main performer Satine who is a courtesan (prostitute) they are then embroiled in various difficult scenarios which test their love to the brink. This is one of those films where you have to know that it is the kind of film you like before you watch it, I would absolutely not recommend this for people who aren't into musicals, romance or don't want to be left absolutely bewildered at the end of the film. if you didn't know the story of Moulin Rouge (as I didn't) you would struggle to understand what was happening throughout most of the movie, the constant camera changes and overlaying audio make it seem as if the director filmed the movie in order and then decided to move everything around. I feel I must also mention that this film stretches the boundaries of it's PG-13 rating to the extent that I would recommend it to nobody under the age of at least 15 and certainly not to families with kids. As well as this the ending is particularly heart-breaking which is something to look out for encase (And I would recommend it) you want to have a box of tissues next to you. You may notice however that I have given this film three stars this is because it is impossible to fault the acting of the main cast including Ewan McGregor, Jim Broadbent and Nicole Kidman who all give stunning performances and who all preform incredibly well in their singing roles which brings me onto my next point which is the superb audio. The Songs in Moulin Rouge are Perfectly crafted to fit the scenes, all of them are familiar modern (at the time) songs from the likes of David Bowie, Elton John, Nat King Cole and the police. The costume design is stunning as is the set design, the film also utilises pathetic fallacy to great success. I think that the positives of this film vastly out way the negatives which are for the most part my personal opinion anyway one which you might not share. In my opinion this is a really good Film.
