Is the birds is overrated?

my personal opinion on "The Birds" is that i believe it is slightly overrated due to the slow pace and confusion about the story line of the film. The producer Hitchcock has created many suspenseful and thrilling films like vertigo for example, however I believe this film is not his best work at it does not represent the idea behind the final product to its best ability. The film is about Melanie who meets a man called Mitch in a bird shop, as the two have engaged Melanie becomes familiar that he was on the search for some lovebirds to give to his younger sister for her birthday and decides to travel all the way to a town where he goes every weekend. As the film progresses the audience begin to realise the strange behaviours of the birds around his town as they slowly become more and more aggressive leaving the residents in great danger. I believe that Hitchcock’s idea behind this film was to create an “end of the world” scenario, however this wasn’t executed perfectly. In my opinion I believe that the film took a very long time to introduce us to the plot of the film as we thought that this was a love story rather than a horror story. Although, I can understand that this film is a personal favourite to many as I can appreciate the false sense of security suddenly turns to create a horror and a thrilling film. I can also appreciate Hitchcock as a director as I believe that the film succeeded its true intentions through this film. I believe if the pace of the film was just a bit quicker, I would have enjoyed it better however I lost interest due to the amount of time it took for the film to introduce the terror and fear factor behind Hitchcock’s creativity. I also can appreciate how Hitchcock experimented with the graphics and CGI behind the film in consideration of the release date in 1963. Personally, I would not watch this film again however it does not change my opinion of the ability Hitchcock has as a director of the 20th century as I have enjoyed other pieces he has created.
