Ever After - A Cinderella Story (1998)

Hello Film Club members and welcome to the first fairy tale film which is called Ever After A Cinderella Story which was chosen by my sister Katie for today's date which is the 20th of December 2022 and it is the twentieth day of advent and we only have five more sleeps to go until Christmas and that is my challenge will be achieved. This is what Ever After A Cinderella Story is all about Andy Tennant who directed this Cinderella variant to The Brothers Grimm who arrive at the home of a wealthy Grande Dame who speaks of the many legends surrounding the fable of the cinder girl before telling the "true" story of her ancestor. In a flashback, the story focuses on an eight-year-old Danielle, daughter of a wealthy widower, in the 16th-century of France. After returning to France with his new wife Rodmilla who is played by Anjelica Huston and her two daughters, he then dies of a heart attack when he goes back out again just when he gets back. Ten years later, Danielle who is played by Drew Barrymore is now treated as a servant by the trio in her own home fortunately, she has an encounter with Prince Henry who is played by Dougray Scott who is fleeing an arranged marriage. Later, when Danielle poses as a Lady by giving the Prince her mother's name that is when the prince takes an interest in her. Inventor-artist Leonardo Da Vinci who was accepting the French court's patronage, offers advice to Prince Henry on matters of his heart. This film is my mum's favourite remake of the story about Cinderella so that is why it has been given five stars which means I loved it because in this version Danielle shows kindest to her stepmother at the end even though her stepmother was so cruel to her, the other servants and even her other daughter whose name is Jacqueline.
