I saw the musical version of this film a while back, I think sometime around the 25th of April.
I liked it, both the musical and the film. However, I preferred this over the musical; and I'd like to get into that. (Not like you're going to stop me.)
This review is, how do I put this? Going to dive into a certain "nature" unfit for the innocent minded. I'm going to be talking about sex; so if you're not into that or under 16 or so, then please click away.
Good. Now that you're not reading this, I'll get to my point. As a musical, it's actually rather faithful to the original film at least for the first act. What changes, for me, is the focus of the jokes. Young Frankenstine, as a film, contains a few raunchy jokes; I don't hate these jokes, but with the musical the kind of attention it puts on these jokes makes me a bit uncomfortable.
It's not all bad, there was a good one I loved and I don't want to ignore that one.
Moving away from the jokes on to the plot; now, to fully articulate what I feel, I have to dabble into some spoiler territory; but trust me I spoil the musical more than the film.
There's a song called "Join the family business" where Fredrick is harassed by his grandfather. I like the song, but during the song Vic says "For your name is Frankenstein!" and later in the musical Fred was hanged, and before his death he takes his family name; I liked it but I would've liked it more if it was more his choice.
Here's the musical on YouTube for young frankincense, I hope to watch it soon enough:
