Pixar Shorts Volume 2: Time Travel Mater (2012)

I am a time travel fan, in fact Back to the Future is one of my favourite film series and I think one that really impacted me as a writer. So I guess I like this short because it has time travel, but there are some things I think should've been done better. I felt that it was paced too fast, even though it was a short it should've taken its time more. And another thing, there's a plot hole; the entire story is that Mater goes to the past and helps make the town he lives in, this isn't the plot hole. The framing device for this story is that Mater is explaining this story to Lightening McQueen, using McQueen to maintain the timeline. The problem is, amongst the issues of Lightening McQueen's "Consent" and "Agency", Mater takes McQueen to the past WHILE he's telling the story and by the end McQueen has zero recollection of the story. Now this would've been fine, if they had shown Mater - from earlier in the story - taking McQueen to the past. That's the thing with time travel, if not done right you eventually get plot holes like this. In the end I give this a half-hearted 4/5, mainly because I couldn't do a 3.75/5.
