So Back to the Future.
This is a movie that I've never seen before and weirdly never quite watched it on a single clip of it as a kid. I mainly associate with the Delorean because (here's a fun fact) the Deloreans wasn't just in America, it was from Ireland by the manufacture DMCL in The Cutts in Dunmurry on the south-western edge of Belfast. What if I told there is a replica in Ulster Transport Museum, complete with the movie and its own stage (no I'm not sponsored).
This is so cool as an Irsh person and speaking of the movie.
Me and my good friend did talk about the Paradox in a school trip in the libary.
My friend absolutely loves time machines, so do I. The whole concept of travel back in time in different events but my friend makes a logical conclusion about the paradox.
What is a paradox if your wondering? Its a self-contradictory or counter-inuitive of past actions.
There is this The Grandpa Paradox, this bascially a What If senario. If you go back to time when your Grandpa was a boy, but you decided to kill him, that means you wouldn't exist, so that means your Grandmother wouldn't meet him, your mother wouldn't meet your dad and you are never born. But if your never born, how could you killed your grandpa in the first place? But wouldn't because you didn't existed yet, so therefore Grandpa do exsist and you exist. However if you did kill him anyways, you created a new possible timelines in said universe but has a different out come of your past actions.
This subject will be brought up later on (so keep this in mind). So without a further-a-do let's get back it:
I written this title, Isn't what I expected is because at first glance I fought this movie is going to be some comedy wacky adventure with two guys into crazy town. I mean that works fine but this movie went a little more further then your adventure movie. I was surprised off Guard that the guys killed Doc (that is setting up the steaks) and now Marty (in confusion) go into the Delorean into time in the wrong world.
What I like at the start is that they show it, its not green screen its actual stuff and the fact the movie made a constrant to the begining that the open Lyon Estates is the place where Marty lives and going back into 1955. In fact, one of my biggest positive about this movie is its really tightly written.
Back to the Future is one of these wonderful kind of movies that if you blink, you'll miss it. There is so much detail that you can easy did realised. This makes sense what I said about the paradox, to order to make the stroyline work, you must included the past you create. Even the smallest details matter because if you don't it wouldn't feel logical. This movie didn't needed to included this much details, like the first opening where the forcast mention this missing item:
News person: " In other news, officials at the Pasific Nuclear research facility have denied the rumour that a case missing plutonium was in fact stolen from their vault two weeks ago. A Libyan terrorist group had claimed responsiblity for the alleged theft. However, officials now attribute the discrepancy to a simple clerical error. The FBI, which is investigating the matter, had no comment."
Then next the movie shows you the plutonium, later on Doc did in fact stole the plutonium and a terrorist group kills him (as I forget to mention for some reason) because they just happened to be involved to this and at the movie ending they just left Doc (which I'll get into later). Also the opening has a bunch of clocks representing the time travel aspect.
The principal also inter react to Marty called him a slacker (which he is) and reminds him of he's father. Later on Marty father just acts awkard and makes one of the weirdest laugh I've ever heard (in my opinion but its funny anyways). In the past he is a very awkard person (basically the nerd character trait) and was later that he loves si fi and wants to make a novel of it. Back when Marty is Back he's dad did eventually did publish it.
My point is there is so little details that you can easily missed out on first watch.
Also, there is steaks in the movie, man it shouldn't go this hard but I'm thgankful it did. Again what I said about if your dad never meet your mother, then you wouldn't exist. The movie take that advantage of Marty is getting disappeared as the movie progress and shows you the photo of he's siblings is are gone one by one. Also the bullies are manage to be threaten to me because oh boy Zemeckis go what further by literally having conscent woth Lorraine...
Yeah, these movies' humour is ins*x jokes, though as an edgelord of myself I find it funny and it doesn't bored the movie too much for me. Well I guess Robert Zemeckis humour.
Anyways, Marty's dad did get an nice character arc of learning to stand up himself. I also forgot to mention that Marty never said to he's mom and dad he is their parents because it makes even more awkard and they aren't he's parents yet. There are moments where Marty almost said their names as he said to himself.
The end where Marty give the note to Doc.
When he comes back he saw another version of him and after he thought Doc died, he didn't and happened to have a bullet proof vest because of the note he give him to.
So in that way, Marty never go back in time then to give him the note (get he's parents together) then Doc will not bring the suit and will die. Again it makes the experience more worth it is because you there are elements you can't re-write and because of the psychological hints. The movie works so well is because its one of these films where there is a setup and pay off. Again as I mention (say again too many times now) Marty's dad learning to stand up he's self and that's bcause the movie's good pacing to give you an understanding of the characters.
The movie give much information and the movie perfectly never ignore any detail and nobody feels forgotten about.
I don't what it is but I love the casting, something about it is so iconic, particularly Michael J. Fox (as Marty McFly) and Christopher Lloyd (as Dr. Emmett. Brown). Also the executive producters is none other then Stephen Hillenburg, Frank Marshall and (get this) Kathleen Kennedy. Yes (a friedn to Hillenburg), the same person whom is now president of Lucas Films and the person behind the Star Wars sequels... (cough)
Final Thoughts: So overrall, Back to the Future is a great iconic movie that challenges the viewers intelligence and the logic that what if you go back in time to see your parents meet each other. I've also since the sequels and I would might to watch them (if I could). Also the only nip pick i had witht his movie is the effects, particularly the fire which you can tell its green screen but that's just a small nip pick and looks decent todays standards.
If you want a si-fi movie, with a down to Earth characters and wacky comedy to top off. I higly recommended to give it a watch.
So that's everything I got to say!
