Psycho film review
Psycho is one of the most classic horror and psychological horror films of all time, directed by one of the most famous directors of all time Alfred Hitchcock and made in 1960. It was one of the first films to showcase murder in a movie and defined and changed the Horror genre as we now know it today, although the film was made when colour in films was available it was thought to be to gruesome with the blood at the time to have it in colour.
The films plot basic but effective, a woman steals money from her employer to get away from the city of Pheonix with her boyfriend, but during the travels gets to tired to continue and unfortunately picks the wrong motel to stay at, Bates Motel which is ran by Norman Bates, a seemingly nice man who has a rocky relationship with his mother, he gets to know the woman and during conversation she mentions a care home, this tips Norman over the top so in one of the most iconic movie scenes of all time he kills her in the shower, almost feeling like god is giving her punishment for stealing the 40 thousand dollars from her employer. As the film goes on more and more psychological twists occur and the film becomes something you really need to think about.
Overall I would recommend anyone who enjoys horror and show not tell horror films that make you question what’s going on the you should watch this, it’s a contrast to the usual films you may watch as its in black and white but has definitely aged well and everyone should give it a watch.
