The Golden Compass

4 stars

21 Dec 2024

On Friday the 13th of December 2024 we chose a film that was based on his Dark Materials for are Christmas challenge which is about 24 films during advent. The film is about A parallel world ruled by The Magisterium where people's souls have animal shapes, the orphan Lyra Belaqua is educated in the Jordan College, and her uncle and Professor Lord Asriel who is her tutor but he has a huge secret. While hiding Lyra accidentally overhears a conversation about a research of Lord Asriel in the North Arctic and the existence of a powerful Dust that unites different worlds. When her best friend Roger is kidnapped by the evil Gobblers, Lyra promises to rescue him. She is then invited to go to the North with the influent Mrs. Coulter and the Jordan's Vice-Chancellor who secretly gives her a magic golden compass capable of revealing the truth. When Lyra finds that Mrs. Coulter is the leader of the Gobblers, she escapes from her house and the runaway girl begins an amazing adventure in a war to save her friend and other missing children with her allied 'Gyptians, Witches and the strong Armored Bear called Iorek Byrnison. I recommend you watch the series that the film is based on because the film did not end so you can find out more information about what happens to Lyra, her friend and her loyal companion. This review has been given a four star rating which means we liked it because we thought the film followed the book but the film lost a star because it left a cliff hanger on what would happen in Lyra's continuous adventure so that made the storyline hard to follow sometimes. Thank you for reading are review about the Golden Compass and we only have four more days to go so I hope you can still join us in our challenge. P.S I am sorry that all my reviews have been posted a little late but I hope you are enjoying reading them.
