So I've been recently reviewing mostly positive movies, but you know me I go back to my old ways. Yeah! Critique movies!
Now I come across as a misbehaving child but I encourage you to stick with me and we just sugur-coat nothing is wrong because there is always something and correcting it. This is just my opinion, its okay not to argee but its not okay to harass. Let people be people. I guess its people's attention spam these days, but I digress.
Anyways rant over, oh wait this is a review of criticize a movie.
So Illumination's The Grinch.
It sure was a movie and not a belove one either. I actually a bit of history with this movie. I used to watch it in a place (which I'm not going to tell because its my personal life), as a child I thought it was okay. The thing is that I don't what criticize means at the time and my brain gotten a bit more educated and more understanding of the film industry.
And I'm just digressing but back to the movie, I hear it was bad, but that was years ago. Surely the movie have some redeemable qualities-
No, for the mostly part, its a movie that's already been disguess in Youtube. But without a further-a-do lets get into it:
To start off with the story, its basically the same, Grinch hates Christmas so he plan to steal it, Cindy Lou thought she had caught Santa but its the Grinch and tells him the he's the best and the Grinch changes he's heart by the end.
Leonard:"Okay what's the actuallly problem with the movie? Its just a 1 hour and 25mins movie, so technically there's nothing wrong!"
Glad you ask, because sure its a short movie but the problem draws the pacing. The plot of the Grinch and the fat reindeer is just pointless.
The reindeer barely makes an impact on the plot and its just plot could happen. The side plot should be about Max and Grinch's friendship, I do not understand about reindeer, its just to execuse the ending that can easily be change.
Okay this is the part everyone critize, the Grinch's design. They butchered he's design, he's supposed to be the mean spritied, vicious, furry green goblin. Now he's literally a plush toy, they make he's teeth white! The song says its "yellow". LIAR!
He's is more white then mine, just the poster he just looked annoyed not cyincal. I mean at least the live-action knows what's its doing, even you don't like the live-action design, you can excuse for the painful progress Jim Carrey had to gone for (if you didn't know the makeup took up over more then 3 hours to complete the look, and I appericated the talent the people put in).
Here, you can't justify the arguement. He just looks too friendly and of course its Illumination likes to dumb down the child audience. I can't stress enough what they've done. Also is it just me but do the actors feel like they want to get over and done with. Especially the narrator, he just sounds like he doesn't want to be here.
The humour isn't funny either, the main is goat screaming. Serriously I'm tear the goat a part if I hear another goat scream, its very annoying. It also have in your face comedy like when the Grinch he's. Gyatt (he he, I'm in danger) to Max. Why.
Also the ginger kid strip naked...
I wouldn't say its all bad, there are a few moments I admit its funny and did a tiny snore. Like when that guy thought he saw Santa so he asked for another piece of cake.
But I actually have a few positives to say, I'll admit the animation is not that terrible. I dare to say its Illumination's best looking movie (second to Super Mario Bros.). Its very bright and colourful and done a fine enough job of design the city. And that moment the Grinch saw the tree and him looking down at Who's ville for some reason goes hard. There are a few okay moments, like when steal all of the Christmas presents, its fun to look and a bit creative but I do think its a little too fast.
However, I feel like they haven't capture the core of Dr. Seuss books. It lacks the gravity art style that it should have done. For Horton Hear's a Who at least that movie perfectly and respectfully capture that art style in the books.
But I give this movie a two stars and not one. That's because the ending of the movie is the best part of the movie, the ending where the Grinch apologize the the Whos's he stole their Christmas and was invited for a dinner part by Cindy. Its surprisingly a good moment and caught me off guard. Its a concept that has never been done before, its not like the Chuck Jones or the Live-action on where the ending is "You save the world" but instead he just gets invited to a dinner party, not by the mayor or any fancy people just regular people with a reguarly dinner and house.
I find that cleaver its gives this down to Earth play and I love he acts anxious (he even wears a tie). It makes perfect snse since he was isolated as a child and never reacts to anyone in Whoville and he just stole their Christmas. Everyone in the party forgive Girnch and it makes sense because that's one of the meanings of Christmas is (besides giving) redeption and spread love to the world.
Final Thoughts: So overrall that was The Grinch (2018), so is it Cinematie Classic Junk? Merely I would say, just the ending is a bit of a gulity pleasure. I wouldn't say completely, just almost.
If your wondering why do I act pretentious to Dr. Seuss. Its because of he's artwork and yes what if I told you he's an artist and one of my favourites out there. I recommend you watching Solar Sand's: "The Secret Darker Art of Dr. Seuss."
Anyways, its a movie that isn't the worst but I don't recommending you watching it. Just watch the ogs if any other Christmas then this.
So that's everything I got to say and Merry Christmas to All!
